Doubletime Directed by Stephanie Johnes

In the last thirty years, jump rope has moved off the sidewalk and into the competitive arena. The sport now features astounding acrobatic tricks, lightning speed, hip-hop style and international competition. Doubletime follows two of the most accomplished and award-winning teams in the world: The Bouncing Bulldogs of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and The Double Dutch Forces from Columbia, South Carolina. Although they train in neighboring states, the Bulldogs and the Forces don't have a chance to compete against each other because they belong to separate leagues.

The Bulldogs represent the best of gymnastic, freestyle, single-rope jumping found mostly in white suburbia, while the Forces belong to the largely African American tradition of Double Dutch, which uses two ropes. Doubletime culminates at the Apollo Theater in Harlem with a dramatic competition where, for the first time, the Bulldogs and the Forces go head-to-head in a high-energy international event featuring fusion routines where the sport of Double Dutch blends with hip-hop dance and music.
